Tile that sounds hollow when tapped is a different situation: the bond between tile and substrate has failed somewhere underneath, and that tile will keep working loose or cracking at the same spot no matter how many times it gets reset, because the reason it came loose has not been addressed.
The harder conversation is a shower where the tile damage is a symptom of a waterproofing failure behind the wall — a corner that stayed cracked, a floor that has gone soft, tile that keeps coming loose in the same area. In that situation, a tile repair does not fix the actual problem, and the honest answer is that redoing a failed shower means taking it back to the studs and rebuilding the waterproofing correctly, not patching the surface again.
